This week’s box-office takings for family film Oddball have pushed it into the all-time top 25 highest-grossing Australian films.

The film, produced by WTFN, has now leaped ahead of such iconic features as The Castle, Shine and Green Card (a joint Australian/French production). As of the November 8 receipts, Oddball has grossed $10,592,463 and is fast closing in on Happy Feet 2 (2011, $10,694,917) and Mad Max 2 (1981, $10,847,491) on the all-time list.

WTFN chief executive Daryl Talbot says the film’s performance, bursting into the top 25 less than two months after its release, proves that strong home-grown stories clearly resonate with Australian audiences.

“We couldn’t be happier with the way Oddball has performed, given it was only released on September 17 this year,” Daryl says. “Australian cinema has come in for a fair amount of criticism in recent years and Oddball is testament to the quality of what we can produce here. Audiences are definitely voting with their feet.”

Oddball is showing across Australia, distributed by Village Roadshow.
