DOWN & OUT BEEF BURGERS
Ingredients
Burger Ingredients:
- 4x 500g packs of beef mince – standard
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tsp salt, to taste
- Dijon mustard
- American cheese (woolies cheeseburger brand)
- 2x Iceberg lettuce’s
- 6x Tomatoes
Sauce:
- 15g light mayo
- 8g sweet relish
- 8g mustard
- 8g tomato sauce
- 1 tsp vinegar
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 x bag of brown onions
Method
1. Make the Sauce
- In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, relish, tomato sauce, mustard, vinegar, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Mix until smooth. Set aside.
2. Caramelize the Onions
- Heat a pan or flat top BBQ over medium heat.
- Add oil and sliced onions.
- Reduce heat to low and cook slowly until golden brown.
- If onions start drying out, add a splash of water to keep them moist.
- Set aside once caramelized.
3. Prepare the Patties
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef with onion powder, garlic powder, Dijon mustard, oil, meat tenderizer, MSG, salt, and pepper.
- Form into one large ball, then divide into 80g portions.
- Roll each into a ball.
4. Cook the Patties
- Heat your hot plate or pan to high heat.
- Lightly oil the surface to prevent sticking.
- Place a beef ball on the hot plate.
- Cover with parchment paper and smash flat using a burger press.
- Cook until a crust forms, then flip and cook the other side.
5. Assemble the Burger
- Toast burger buns if desired.
- Spread sauce on the bottom bun.
- Add patty, caramelized onions, and any other toppings (cheese, pickles, lettuce).
- Top with the bun and serve hot.
